Secure development

Learn about cyber security and how to design and develop secure multi-tiered systems based on current best-practices.

Technology specific – offered for .NET, Java, or PHP

Hackers often take advantage of security flaws that were built into systems at the early design and development stages. Incorporating security into the design of the system is the most cost-effective way to protect the system, its data and the organizations that use it.

This technical hands-on training is designed to help participants better understand the impact that design and development processes have on the overall security of a system and the businesses that rely on it. The training introduces basic cyber security concepts such as confidentiality, integrity and availability, multi-layered security, and input validation. It highlights common vulnerabilities that hackers often exploit to gain access to a system, and emphasizes ways to prevent them in the early stages of design and development.

Topics covered in this training module include:

  • Introduction to cyber security
  • Common attack techniques
  • Assessing risk
  • Cryptography
  • Multi-layered security concepts
  • Secure infrastructures
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Input validation and sanitization
  • OS and environment security
  • Least-privilege principals
  • How to fail securely
  • Security code reviews
Duration: Four days (may be split into eight half-day sessions)
Type: Lecture and hands-on training
Recommended group size: Up to 25 participants
Target audience:
  • Development team leaders
  • Software development team members
Prerequisites: Experience in the relevant technology based on the specific course (.NET, Java, or PHP)
